It’s that season again! Augusta, Georgia is buzzing with the excitement of the Augusta National Masters, a world-famous golf tournament that has been taking place in our city since 1934.
Back then, this area was much smaller and golf attendance was low due to the Great Depression and second World War. “People didn’t really know much about golf tournaments,” according to local architect Lowery Stulb who designed the tournament golf club’s Eisenhower Cabin. Yet, community support turned a game of golf into a fashionable event much like the Kentucky Derby with its parties, celebrities and air of exclusivity. Since the 1950s, the Masters Tournament has been a place that former presidents like Dwight Eisenhower, pro golfers like Arnold Palmer, and fans from around the world have gathered. The Augusta National Golf Course has been heralded as a top course by Golf Digest, Golf Week and other respectable publications. Augusta residents are so proud to call this wonderful destination their own backyard!Buy this lovely painting of the Augusta National Golf Course by Linda Hartough here.
