Nestled away off of Wrightsboro Road in Grovetown, Georgia is a large dairy farm and corn maze turned popular fall attraction. Steed’s Dairy was originally purchased by John Steed, Sr. in 1934 and is the only remaining dairy farm in both Richmond and Columbia Counties.
Steed’s grandchildren have taken over and cared for the farm since their grandfather’s passing and have created a hot spot to visit during the fall. The growing popularity of corn mazes in the early 2000s inspired the owners to create one on their land as well. “Agritourism” is a way to keep the farm operating as a profitable business while maintaining its integrity. The first corn maze at Steed’s Dairy opened in 2010 and has been a hit to local residents ever since. The owners change the layout of the maze every year, which can be viewed from aerial photos on their website. This year, the 5 acre maze is dedicated to a family planning a mission trip to Uganda.
In addition to the corn maze, the farm also includes a petting zoo for children to enjoy. There is a large pumpkin patch perfect for family photos and pumpkins are available for purchase as well. Hayrides are offered throughout the pasture and there are stations such as a giant slide for families to have fun. There are also concession booths for families to make a day out of it and enjoy some lunch or a quick snack. The older generation will enjoy reminiscing on simpler times and share the farm experience with the younger ones.
Schools and private events are hosted during weekdays for children to learn about the milking process and watch milk being made in real time. They can learn about all of the other animals living on the farm as well. The farm is also available for birthday parties and corporate/social events!
