It’s hard to believe that we are already halfway through 2019! The summer months especially seem to fly by with all of the fun gatherings and events. With things being so busy, you may neglect some things in the home. We have a quick and easy checklist so you can be sure that things are taken care of properly.
Clean the porch lights.
If glass fixtures can be easily removed, wash them in the sink or in a dishpan filled with soap and warm water. If you aren’t able to remove the light fixtures, cut the power off and gently wipe them with a damp microfiber cloth. Change lightbulbs as well if needed.
Check safety devices.
Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors need to be checked every month to be sure that the batteries are still working properly and can be replaced if needed. Take a look at any fire extinguishers in the house, too- if they have passed the expiration date, replace them immediately.
Clean windows inside and out.
Rinse windows quickly with a glass cleaner or vinegar solution and wipe them dry with a microfiber cloth. For outside windows that are hard to reach, try a window-washing attachment on your hose or consider hiring a window-washing service.
Inspect window screens.
If you keep your windows open any length of time, you should be sure that there are no tears in the screens for pesky insects to get through. If there are, a simple screen patch repair kit should do the trick.
Save your water.
Between watering the grass, washing cars, extra showers from swimming and more, your water bill can definitely take a beating during summer months. Try to reserve outdoor watering for the earlier, cooler hours in the morning. This helps to waste less water as it will evaporate in higher heat. There are also sprinkler systems that are programmable similar to your indoor thermostats that could reduce your water bill by up to 15% each year.
By checking these tasks off of your list, you’ll ensure your family’s safety while keeping the house clean and saving money. Don’t let this summer pass you by and end up with a neglected house in the middle of the back-to-school rush!
