November means the holiday season is officially in full gear, beginning with Thanksgiving. Do you plan on hosting friends and family in your home this year for Thanksgiving? Even after asking others to contribute dishes potluck-style, there can still be a lot of work to do in the home to prepare. Refer to this handy checklist while getting your home ready for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Three Weeks Before

Three weeks before Thanksgiving comes, you’ll need to begin planning your menu. This will give you sufficient time to complete your grocery shopping before the stores are over-crowded during the week of Thanksgiving. It will also give guests plenty of time to prepare their own dishes to bring. Decide on the number of guests you’ll be inviting as well so that everyone cooks or bakes an appropriate amount.

Two Weeks Before

You’ll need to arrange a schedule for cleaning before and after the Thanksgiving dinner. It’s a good time to round up volunteers so that you have extra hands to make it happen quicker. If you are using a particular type of dishware that isn’t paper or plastic, ensure that there are enough pieces in the set for each guest.

One Week Before

If you plan on serving wine or other beverages, go ahead and purchase those to avoid the crowds the night before. You’ll also need to clean the refrigerator to ensure that there is enough space for dishes and leftovers. If you have a frozen turkey, go ahead and start thawing it out.

One Day Before

The day before Thanksgiving, place your turkey in its brine and store in the refrigerator. Prep all of the vegetables you will be using and store them safely. Bake desserts as well so that they are ready to serve right after dinner. Any recipes that will keep overnight, prepare them so that you will have less work to do on Thanksgiving day.

By following this checklist and having necessary items prepared in advance, your Thanksgiving holiday will be a breeze! Don’t allow the stress of hosting others affect you, but rather enjoy the time with friends and family. After everything is done, kick back on the couch to watch your favorite football team while the food settles!
