Swimsuit Drying Dos and Don’ts

Swimsuit season is upon us, which means sunshine and vacations. Between the beach, pool, splash pads and elsewhere, swimsuits undergo a great deal of wear and tear. Many times, they can be tough to find after extensive amounts of shopping. Once you have found “the one”, you want to take great care of it to make sure it lasts as long as possible. This is where washing and drying care come in. There are a few mistakes that can be made when taking care of swimsuits, so here is what to look out for:

Keep it out of the dryer.

Do not put your swimsuit in the dryer under any circumstances. It is the worst way to dry it and accelerates the speed of deterioration, so you may only have one summer with the suit if it’s being dried this way. Heat can alter the elasticity, size and shape of a swimsuit.

Don’t lay it out in the sun.

It’s one thing to enjoy your time in the sun with a great swimsuit, but don’t leave it out to dry after use. Drying in the sun can cause the colors to fade. UV rays can irreversibly change the components of fabric dye, so avoid this at all costs.

Say no to hangers.

Whether it’s on a hanger, draped over the shower rod or hung on a doorknob, it’s a bad idea. The fabric of a swimsuit can easily stretch in ways it isn’t meant to and look unflattering the next time you put it on.

Lay your suit flat to dry.

To create a long life for your swimsuit, lay it flat away from heat and direct sunlight. Spread a towel over a surface or purchase a lay-flat clothes drying rack.

By taking proper care of your swimsuit, you will be able to wear it for years on end and keep the colors as vibrant as they were the day you got it. Remember to keep it out of the dryer and avoid other methods that will quickly damage it. Enjoy the summer fun!
