Home Decor Trends from TikTok
TikTok has been a trend for a few years among those in the Gen-Z age group, but it has risen in popularity with other ages as well during the past year with many having downloaded it out of boredom during the early days of the Covid-19 pandemic. TikTok creators focus on aesthetic and some of the most popular videos are made in rooms that are easy to envy. There are also home decor and interior design trends rising up via TikTok.
One of the popular home decor trends is painted arches on a wall. If you want a small pop of color without fully covering an accent wall, use some painter’s tape and your color of choice to create a decorative arch that can frame doorways, desks, beds or just to have a statement wall piece.
Monochromatic themes are another big trend coming out of the TikTok world. Make things look cohesive without it all falling flat by choosing one color family with different items in various shades of the same color. For example, a monochromatic green room may consist of light green throw pillows, a darker green blanket, different types of plants and a forest green accent wall. Let your creative juices flow and don’t be afraid to stick with one color scheme for an entire room.
Rattan and brass add a relaxing yet regal touch to any room. Breezy rattan wall decor can be found in plenty of local shops and decor stores and so can brass trimmings to ground the room with elegance. Think drawer knobs and statement mirrors for a video-worthy environment.
Straight-shaped furniture is becoming a thing of the past. More rebellious shapes and geometric pieces are making their way into everyday homes such as corner nooks with cylindrical chairs and shelving additions with uneven levels.
Another classic piece of decor that is becoming outdated is your typical candle. The hashtags #bendycandle and #bubblecandle have a combined 20 million views on the video app. You can even DIY these with classic taper candles! Simply submerge a taper candle in hot water for about 15 minutes, carefully remove and flatten with a rolling pin, then twist and bend to your heart’s desire. Run it under cold water to lock in the shape- just be sure to keep the wick pointed upward for safety when lighting.
Wallpaper is also making a comeback, thanks in part to TikTok. The peel-and-stick type is especially popular due to its ease of application and the variety of textures and colors available.
