4 mixed media in 2nd floor copy room
The calm before the storm is always the most peaceful part of life. In that calm there is quiet, peace, and I dare say, even serenity. In this art collection, “The Calm”, I explore the buildup to a storm. The collection consists of 4 large 36”x48” mixed media canvases. The materials, flowers, plaster, wire, metal, glitter, paint, digital media, and foam are used to physically develop the feeling of the stages of an approaching storm. The scale will draw the viewer in and engage in their senses as they see the many hidden details and elements in the art piece. The order in which the artwork will be displayed is crucial in capturing the emotional impact of the work and in helping the viewer understand the subtle narrative. The more serene and lively colors are placed starting the narrative and darker tones will end the narrative. The art becomes more and more drastically different, shifting colors and changing mediums over the stages of each piece The piece itself is meant to engage the viewer in such a way that anticipation begins to build up with every art piece.
