Over 60 percent of remodelers are expected to complete kitchen remodels in 2014, more than any other room in the house. If you are a part of this majority of homeowners then you will want to know the current trend.

Kitchen remodels in 2014 are anticipated to shift away from a rustic style to a more modern “Jetson” style. Warm paint colors and iron hardware are out; white, black, and gray are in. Cabinets and countertops will have simple lines, glossy finishes, and a feature a more minimalist design. Appliances will likely be blended into the design or hidden away from view to give the kitchen a sleeker and more futuristic look.

2. Brass Features

Brass is making a comeback this year! However, it will be returning with a new look. No longer highly polished and metallic, brass has gone rustic. Expect dull and hammered brass hardware and lighting accents to pop up in rooms like the kitchen and bathroom.

3. Elegant Bathrooms

Bathrooms are a popular room to remodel because they are generally smaller, and take less time and money to make dramatic change. In 2014, resort style bathrooms that feature amenities such as large walk-in showers and multiple shower heads, heated floors and towel racks, and jetted bathtubs will be the trend to watch. Colors will lean towards neutrals and cool tones like ash gray, light blue, and off-white. Glass tiles will be a popular feature

4. Flashy Colors

Although the bathroom might be veering towards cool tones and the kitchen might be going modern, designers expect a much different outcome in other rooms of the house. 2014 will continue the trend of bright accent colors, but they’ll be more of a focal point. Expect to see flashy colors such as Radiant Orchid, Pantone’s Color of the Year, as well as Green Flash, Lemon Zest, Nectarine and Rouge Red.

5. Eco-Friendly Materials

While going green is nothing new in terms of remodeling, maintaining sustainability throughout the remodel process will get easier and cheaper. Because energy efficiency is becoming more of an assumption rather than an add-on this, year homeowners will likely see more energy saving options and renewable materials. Be on the look out bamboo, energy-efficient appliances and additional designs that incorporate the local climate.
