Keeping up with housework is not everyone’s favorite task, but it is absolutely necessary. Between busy work schedules, piling laundry, and endless meals, it can seem overwhelming to keep the house clean all the time. A routine is important to maintain the cleanliness of your home. By taking these steps regularly, your home will be ready for guests in no time.
Take Off Shoes
Shoes carry dirt and germs into the home. It takes a few extra seconds to leave them at the door, and can make a world of difference when it’s time to clean the floors (especially on a rainy day). A sleek cubby at the entryway or a drop zone by the garage door are both great options for leaving shoes when you enter the home.
Wipe Down the Sink
When sinks are ignored, mildew and gunk can pile up quickly. Even keeping a container of baby wipes nearby will do the job when it’s time to wipe the sink. Don’t worry about toothpaste chunks being left behind again!
Wipe Kitchen Counters
Keep a spray bottle of one part vinegar and three parts water nearby for every time the counters need a quick cleaning. The vinegar will easily cut through grease and even helps with smudges on stainless steel appliances.
Clean As You Go
When cooking dinner, clean other things while you’re waiting on food. Wipe down countertops and dirty dishes while something is in the oven. If you have the kitchen tidied up by the time dinner is on the table, the only chore left will be placing dishes in the dishwasher for the evening.
Put Clothes Away
Admit it: we all have a “chair”. You know, the chair that fresh laundry gets thrown on and forgotten about. Before you know it, the closet is practically empty and you’re living off of the laundry pile on the chair. Before going to bed, toss dirty clothes in a hamper and hang/fold the clean ones. Your closet will be full and you can sit in your chair again!
Maintaining your home is an everyday task and it doesn’t have to be stressful. Take a few extra minutes each day to accomplish these small chores and enjoy your clean home.
