Time Management in 2020

Have you struggled with productivity in the past? Is a higher productivity rate one of your goals for 2020? If so, it is important to have a time management plan in place to help you achieve success. Keep these things in mind when aiming to be better at time management.

Plan Daily

Schedule out your day before it unfolds. Either first thing in the morning or the night before, write down all of your to-do lists, places to go, and even meal plans. Stick to your daily plan as much as possible, but don’t beat yourself up if something unexpected interrupts your schedule. Life happens and this is simply a template to get you started.

Put a Time Limit on Tasks

When gathering your to-do list, have a desired end time to accomplish each task. If a project is due at work, dedicate X amount of hours each day until you have completed it.

Say “No” If You Have To

Don’t say “yes” to so many things that you are drowning in tasks and obligations. A to-do list that is miles long is a breeding ground for distraction and disappointment. If someone asks you to do something that isn’t time-sensitive and necessary for only you to accomplish, say “no” or defer your “yes” to a later time.

Place a Clock Nearby

A real clock (not your smartphone) is a good visual reminder of how you are managing your time. This will especially help at work when there is a list of tasks to accomplish throughout the day.

Keep the Focus

When doing work on a computer or tablet, close all of the extra tabs and applications that may be up for possible distraction. Give your full attention to the one thing you are trying to do and watch your efficiency increase.

Block Distractions

When important work needs to be done, turn your phone off completely or turn the ringer to silent. Pop in some headphones and listen to motivating music to avoid outside noises or conversations that could pull you away from your work.

By following these steps, you’ll be on the right track to managing your time better in 2020. Remember not to beat yourself up if you don’t stick to your schedule at every point. Scheduling and allotting time is just a guideline to get you started, but by laying everything out, you are already ahead in the game and will be more productive than ever before!
