Tips for Hosting a Zoom Holiday

No part of 2020 has gone the way we planned. As nice as it is to wish that the holidays might be normal, it’s sadly not looking that way. There may be friends or family members you have traditions with every year that you may not be able to see this time around due to health and safety concerns. As disappointing as that is, it’s still possible to make the best out of a sad situation and find a new way to celebrate. Chances are we’re all well acquainted with Zoom by now, so here are a few ways you can celebrate online with those you love!

Virtual Scavenger Hunt

This is a fun and active way to spend a Zoom call with family and friends. It will keep everyone’s excitement and engagement up while probably enjoying a few laughs! To play, fire off prompts like some of the following examples and whoever brings the item back first will get a point. The person with the most points at the end could win a gift card emailed to them or another creative prize. Ideas of what to find in the scavenger hunt include:

  • Favorite gift ever
  • Gift you have owned the longest
  • Christmas movie
  • Coat
  • Christmas stocking
  • Ugly Christmas sweater
  • A holiday photo
  • Boots
  • Apple cider

Christmas Trivia

Miss trivia nights at your favorite restaurant or bar? We have you covered. Get everyone on your zoom call to compete on who has the most Christmas knowledge. Players can use the chat feature or audio to reply with their answers. This is another one that could have some sort of incentive such as an e-gift card. Decorate Together

A widely loved tradition is decorating the home for Christmas with those you love. If you can’t physically be with them this year, set up your laptop or tablet in a spot that has an easy view and everyone can virtually decorate their homes together. You can even bake some of your favorite Christmas recipes to snack on while celebrating the holiday and enjoying time together!

While none of these ideas compare to the feeling of actually being there with someone, they are still a chance to have fun and make the most of what you have been given. Invite some friends and family to a Zoom call and enjoy your time together!
